Normal People Don’t Want To Live In Hell
Normal People Don’t Want to Live in Hell brings together photographs taken in Gaza in 2012.I return to these images often. I think about the people I met there, wondering if they are still alive? Are they trapped in the rubble? Could I have done more? Did I honor their stories?
This book is an act of remembrance and homage to the resilience of the Palestinian people. The design is intentionally makeshift, rough and unrefined, but functional, resourceful and necessary, reflecting the realities of life in Gaza where resources are scarce. Made from recycled paper and stitched by hand, echoing the ways everything is produced under conditions of extreme restriction, shaped by the ongoing Israeli blockade. Each copy is stitched with a single thread, intentionally fragile, destined to loosen over time, inviting the reader to retighten it, to act and remember the endurance, persistence and the collective responsibility.
